Flow: A Modern Office Building Designed by Shun Ming Chang

An Innovative Space that Embraces Nature and Creativity

The inspiration for Flow lies in the concept of flow itself. Shun Ming Chang aimed to create a space that allows for the smooth flow of light, wind, and people. By adjusting the ratio of volume and utilizing a staggered arrangement of inlay, the building achieves a seamless connection between the internal space and the external environment. The result is a dignified and conservative design that also embraces the lush greenery of its surroundings.

What sets Flow apart from other office buildings is its expression of modern simplicity and material texture. The use of staggered high and low visual effects creates a sense of volume and depth in the space. The abundance of flowing inlay adds a touch of aesthetics, while an eye-catching image installation at the entrance serves as a visual focal point, welcoming guests with style. The transparency of glass allows the play of light and shadow from the surrounding plants, highlighting the passage of time within the building.

The realization of Flow's design is achieved through a combination of innovative technologies. The offsetting and inlay techniques, along with the virtuality and reality of the building volume, enhance the openness of the space. The variation of volume angles adds a playful element to the design, while the flowing lights and shadows bring the building to life. The seamless connection between the interior and exterior elements creates a modern and simplified aesthetic.

Flow spans an impressive 7546 square meters, providing ample space for various functions. The design team, led by Shun Ming Chang, included Director Chang Shun Ming, Designer Cheng Yi Ting, and Chung Ching Han. Together, they created an open and bright spatial ambiance that offers breathtaking views from every window.

Located in Yunlin City, Taiwan, Flow was completed in July 2019. The design project aimed to combine the practicality of traditional industry with the innovation and application of modern technology. The result is an open, bright, and comfortable space that enhances work efficiency and fosters closer connections between individuals.

Flow's remarkable design has garnered recognition and accolades. In 2020, it was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in the Architecture, Building, and Structure Design category.
